Philosophy
1. We ask provocative questions. We seek to understand why melanoma arises in the first place. Why does age—the greatest risk factor for melanoma— influence the risk of this cancer? Why do some therapies work in some patient but not others? Because we are a young lab, we are unencumbered by traditions or dogma.
2. We endeavor to understand the reasons at a deep level, because we believe that only deep mechanistic understanding will lead to rational approaches to improve prevention and treatment of melanoma.
3. We are motivated by our patients. Though we are passionate about the biology, we seek questions that ultimately will lead to applications to reduce the risk of melanoma or find better treatments.
