As funding from federal agencies can fluctuate according to government priorities and budgets, private funding is critical for maintaining a sustained attack on the melanoma, particularly rare types of melanoma that we work on. This funding is essential for starting up new, innovative projects that are considered too unproven to qualify for federal research grants. The private seed funding nurtures new ideas which then leads to with government funding after initial proof of concept studies are completed.
